Frames

Underfame and bogies of auto 169 at Williton.

Work on the frames of the carriage has included a complete rebuild of the 'Driving End' steelwork replacing parts that had suffered corrosion mainly in the area  below the cab floor. The remainder of the frames have been needlegunned or wire brushed and a small amount of remedial work has also been undertaken on the 'Luggage End' including some additional strengthening plates. The wheels and tyres have all been measured and found to be in very good condition requiring only minimal work prior to further use. The axles themselves have also been ultrasonically tested and pronounced sound. The only outstanding work on the main framework is now old paint and surface rust removal on a small area . The brake rodding on the bogies need rebushing and a general repaint.  See Underframe Overhaul for the story of the work done on the frames at Buckfastleigh in 2009.
